Metallic Botanicals
A multifaceted process of layering pressed botanicals from my garden and walks with gold leaf and acrylic paints resulting in a one of kind, sculptural relief that has beautiful reflective properties.
My Process
& The Story Behind It
As a child, I often collected leaves and other 'nature treasures.' As a printmaker, I tried to see what kind of imprints I could get from them by putting them through a press. This new iteration is a combination of many years of doing acrylic painting, experimenting with different surfaces (in this case gold leaf) and a fascination with noticing the most minute details of the natural world around us- from grasses to the seedbeds, from fern fronds to creeping vines.

Each artwork includes elements of the natural world embedded into it and a part of my garden and the forests I walk will be memorialized in it forever. Looking for elements that can be included in this series hones my attention on every nature walk I take and makes it a 'real life treasure hunt.'
May the commonplace be elevated to the magical, to the divine, through these pieces.
May we always find access to awe in the natural world around us.
